The Claws Point Inward: Wolverine’s Past Becomes the Enemy
The Claws Point Inward: Wolverine’s Past Becomes the Enemy
Insomniac Games has released a new story trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, revealing a more personal and dangerous chapter in Logan’s search for answers about his past. The trailer opens with an intense confrontation between Logan and Jean Grey, showing that Wolverine’s relationships with other mutants may become as important as his battles against external enemies. Jean Grey will accompany Logan during parts of his journey, but their conflicting personalities and painful history could place additional pressure on their alliance. The Hand has also been confirmed as one of the game’s major enemy factions. The mysterious organization shares a violent history with Logan, and players will gradually uncover the events connecting Wolverine to its red-clad warriors. Deathstrike is presented as one of the central antagonists. Her appearance suggests that Logan will face enemies capable of matching his speed, strength and regenerative abilities, creating encounters built around aggressive close-range combat. The story will take Wolverine across multiple locations around the world as he searches for information about his past and attempts to protect mutantkind. The new trailer emphasizes emotional conflict alongside the brutal action previously shown in gameplay demonstrations. Insomniac Games has also announced a crossover with MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Wolverine’s stylized suit from the fighting game can be unlocked through normal progression in Marvel’s Wolverine from launch day. A Battle Reborn Wolverine costume will also be added to MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as free content beginning September 1, connecting the visual identities of the two upcoming Marvel games. Composer David Fleming is creating the game’s soundtrack, with music designed to shift dynamically alongside Logan’s violent and emotionally intense journey. The complete soundtrack is scheduled for release on August 28, 2026. A digital prequel comic is available through Marvel Unlimited and explores events involving Logan, Team X and a mission connected to the protection of mutantkind before the main game begins. Marvel’s Wolverine launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. Standard and Digital Deluxe editions are currently available for pre-order.

Eorzea Goes Handheld: Final Fantasy XIV Opens Its Switch 2 Gates
Eorzea Goes Handheld: Final Fantasy XIV Opens Its Switch 2 Gates
Final Fantasy XIV Online will begin its Nintendo Switch 2 early-access period on August 4, 2026, bringing Square Enix’s long-running MMORPG to a portable Nintendo platform for the first time. The early-access phase is expected to last approximately one month. Square Enix will use this period to evaluate server stability and performance before beginning the game’s full official service on Nintendo Switch 2. New players will be able to download the expanded Free Trial, which includes A Realm Reborn as well as the Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers expansions. The trial provides hundreds of hours of story quests, dungeons, raids, character progression and online activities without requiring an initial game purchase. Players who want the complete experience can purchase the Complete Edition, which includes the base game and every expansion released through Dawntrail. Eligible purchases also include a 30-day free-play period before a recurring subscription becomes necessary. Existing Final Fantasy XIV players must purchase a separate Nintendo Switch 2 licence to use the game on the new platform. They will also need a Switch 2-specific subscription, although users with an active subscription on another supported platform can receive the Nintendo Switch 2 subscription at half of its standard cost. A Nintendo Switch Online membership will not be required. Players will still be able to enter the shared online world, join parties and communicate with adventurers using other supported platforms. The Nintendo Store lists an estimated installation size of 117.2 GB, making sufficient internal storage or a compatible expansion card an important consideration. The Switch 2 version supports TV, tabletop and handheld play, as well as touchscreen functionality. Square Enix is also offering a limited 30 percent discount on the Nintendo Switch 2 Complete Edition and Complete Collector’s Edition until August 12. With a substantial Free Trial, access to the complete story through Dawntrail and the ability to continue an existing adventure away from a television, Final Fantasy XIV could become one of Nintendo Switch 2’s most significant online RPG releases.

Battlefield 6 Is Building a War Players Can Control
Battlefield 6 Is Building a War Players Can Control
Battlefield Studios has revealed an updated roadmap for Battlefield 6, detailing several major features, maps and community tools scheduled to arrive during the remainder of Season 4 and throughout Season 5. Season 4 is already underway with Pacific Front, Naval Warfare and the large-scale Tsuru Reef battlefield. The next major update, Season 4 Phase 2: Top Gun, is scheduled for August 18 and will introduce Wake Island, Custom Lobbies and Spectator Mode. Custom Lobbies will give hosts more control over private matches and community competitions. Hosts will be able to assign players to specific teams, adjust selected match settings and organize tournaments. Spectator Mode will allow other players to follow the action without directly participating in the match. The first version will support Battle Royale Quads and Conquest through Battlefield Labs in Live. Additional modes and improvements are expected to be added after the developers evaluate player feedback and live performance. Season 4 Phase 3: Tidal Strike will arrive on September 15 with the first implementation of Proximity Chat. The feature will initially be tested in REDSEC Battle Royale, allowing nearby players and squads to communicate during matches. Battlefield Studios plans to evaluate voice range, audio clarity, moderation tools and the effect of Proximity Chat on each round before considering its introduction to regular multiplayer. Season 5 is expected to deliver three completely new maps. One of these battlefields will place a stronger emphasis on infantry combat, while the other two will support the large-scale combined-arms warfare associated with the Battlefield series. Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City are also scheduled to receive redesigned layouts later in Season 5. These reworks will be tested through Battlefield Labs before their full release. Other planned Season 5 additions include Platoons, Multiplayer Leaderboards and a Server Browser. The Server Browser is intended to make it easier to find specific experiences, remain with other players between rounds and avoid unsuitable or high-ping matches. The developers are also investigating concerns involving bot-heavy matches, matchmaking consistency, weapon balance, vehicle combat, gadgets and network performance. Battlefield Studios has confirmed that development will continue beyond Season 5, with additional seasons and content already being planned. The latest roadmap suggests the team is attempting to give players more control over how they find, organize and experience Battlefield 6 matches.

Ring the Bell or Lose Everything: Mistfall Hunter Enters the Fog
Ring the Bell or Lose Everything: Mistfall Hunter Enters the Fog
Mistfall Hunter has officially launched, introducing players to a brutal dark-fantasy world where every expedition can end with valuable treasure or the loss of everything collected during the hunt. Developed by Bellring Games, Mistfall Hunter combines third-person action combat with PvPvE extraction mechanics. Players enter the corrupted world of Weavereach as Gyldhunters, searching ruined settlements for Gyldenblood, rare equipment and forgotten relics while fighting monsters and rival players. The game features six distinct classes, with each class offering two weapon stances that can be switched during combat. Talent trees, active abilities and rare gem effects allow players to create builds focused on direct attacks, mobility, crowd control or defensive survival. Players can enter the mist alone or form a squad of up to three hunters. Successful extraction requires reaching a Returner Woodling and escaping before enemies or competing squads take the collected loot. Mistfall Hunter also connects its extraction system to the story. Resources successfully returned by the community contribute to repairing the shattered Web of Fate, gradually moving the shared narrative forward. Each season can introduce new story missions, limited-time events, unexplored regions, classes and equipment. This evolving structure is designed to make successful extractions affect more than individual character progression. The game is available on Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5, with Xbox and PC players also receiving access through Xbox Game Pass. The Standard and Deluxe editions have a temporary 10 percent launch discount until August 12. With Soulslike-inspired combat, dangerous player encounters and a world that changes through community progress, Mistfall Hunter offers a darker and more story-driven interpretation of the extraction RPG formula.

Alrest Awakens in 4K: Xenoblade 2 Finds a Second Life
Alrest Awakens in 4K: Xenoblade 2 Finds a Second Life
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has returned with a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, bringing major visual improvements and new gameplay content to Monolith Soft’s cloud-sea RPG. The upgraded edition supports 4K resolution in TV mode and 1080p in handheld mode, with gameplay and cutscenes running at up to 60 frames per second. The improvements are designed to make exploration, battles and cinematic sequences appear sharper and smoother than the original Nintendo Switch release. The largest new addition is Merc Assault, an action-focused battle mode that allows players to directly control teams of up to six Blades. Players can freely move across the battlefield, switch between their selected Blades and combine Special Arts to defeat enemies during mercenary missions. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition also introduces MOMO, a new Rare Blade with two interchangeable forms. Switching between Real Mode and Imaginary Mode changes both MOMO’s appearance and elemental affinity, giving players additional options when building a team. MOMO receives her own Blade Quest titled The Home of the Soul. New costume designs for Pyra and Mythra are also included and can appear during regular gameplay as well as story cutscenes. Players who already own Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Nintendo Switch can purchase an upgrade pack instead of buying the complete game again. The new features are exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. Torna: The Golden Country also receives improved performance on Nintendo Switch 2. Eligible versions can run at 4K and 60 FPS in TV mode or 1080p and 60 FPS in handheld mode after the supporting update. With smoother performance, higher resolution, a directly controlled Blade battle mode and new character content, this edition offers returning players a meaningful reason to revisit the world of Alrest.

Marked for the Hunt: Apex Legends Rebuilds Its Predator Meta
Marked for the Hunt: Apex Legends Rebuilds Its Predator Meta
Apex Legends: Marked launches on August 4, 2026, with a major rework for Bloodhound, a redesigned version of World’s Edge and significant changes to weapons, attachments and looting. Bloodhound’s abilities have been rebuilt around a more aggressive hunter playstyle. Moving enemies will leave visible trails, White Ravens will detect targets from a greater distance and the Tactical scan will provide additional snapshots after its initial activation. The biggest change affects Bloodhound’s Ultimate. Instead of enhancing vision and movement in the traditional way, the new ability deploys a device that cloaks Legends who enter its area. Players remain partially concealed for up to 12 seconds after leaving the device, unless they fire a weapon, take damage or perform another action that breaks the effect. World’s Edge also receives a substantial visual and structural update. The redesigned map introduces an aurora-filled night sky, old-god-inspired environments and three new points of interest: East Village, War Camp and Tree Settlement. Returning locations include Sorting Factory, Construction Stacks and a relocated Big Maude. Marked introduces Corrupted Attachments that provide powerful improvements while also applying meaningful disadvantages. Players will need to decide whether benefits such as faster handling, reload speed or fire rate are worth sacrificing magazine capacity or other weapon statistics. Energy weapons are receiving an even larger overhaul. Energy ammunition will be removed from the normal loot pool, allowing compatible weapons to regenerate their own ammunition instead. The weapon interface will also display clearer statistics showing how attachments affect performance. Loba and Rampart receive new buffs. Loba’s Black Market will recharge more quickly and her Tactical ability will move faster and cover greater distances. Rampart will gain improved mobility while using Sheila, while her Amped Walls will deploy faster and withstand more damage. The update also reduces unnecessary looting by removing Support Bins, Assault Bins, Explosive Holds, wildlife loot and loot-bin resets. EA says the goal is to give players more time for combat and make weapon selection more strategic. With Bloodhound’s complete transformation, a darker World’s Edge and new risk-versus-reward equipment, Marked could significantly change both casual matches and the competitive Apex Legends meta.

The Locust Surface: Gears of War E-Day Goes Playable at Gamescom
The Locust Surface: Gears of War E-Day Goes Playable at Gamescom
Gears of War: E-Day will offer its first publicly playable campaign demo at Gamescom 2026, giving attendees an early opportunity to experience the beginning of the Locust War before the game launches on October 6. The prequel takes place fourteen years before the original Gears of War and follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde erupts from beneath the surface. The story explores the chaos of Emergence Day and the events that helped create one of gaming’s most recognizable partnerships. Xbox says the new campaign will return to a darker and more frightening atmosphere. Familiar Locust enemies have been redesigned to feel more dangerous, while new creatures and villains are intended to restore the horror elements associated with the earliest games in the series. The signature cover-based combat system returns with modernized movement, greater vertical freedom and new close-range weapons. Players will be able to complete the campaign alone, through two-player split-screen co-op on consoles or with up to four players online. Gears of War: E-Day is being rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 and is targeting 4K resolution with performance of up to 60 frames per second across both the campaign and multiplayer modes. The Gamescom demonstration will be an important first test for the game, allowing players to judge its combat, darker visual direction and redesigned Locust enemies several weeks before release. The title will launch for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC and will be available through Game Pass from day one.

The Ring Reopens: Halo’s First Campaign Returns Rebuilt
Halo: Campaign Evolved has officially launched, rebuilding the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign with modern visuals, updated cinematics, refined controls and redesigned audio. The remake includes the ten missions from the original campaign alongside Operation: METEORITE, a completely new three-mission story developed for this release. The additional campaign takes place one year before the events of the first Halo and follows Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson during a secret UNSC operation aboard a Covenant research vessel. Operation: METEORITE introduces new locations, enemy variants and weapons from across the Halo series. Players will fight alongside UNSC forces, enter Covenant-controlled areas and face new threats such as the Brute Berserker. The expanded arsenal includes nine additional weapons from later Halo games. Players can also hijack enemy vehicles and, for the first time in the original campaign, take control of a fully drivable Wraith tank. Halo: Campaign Evolved supports solo play, two-player split-screen cooperation on consoles and four-player online co-op. Cross-play and cross-progression are available across Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam and PlayStation 5. Optional Skull modifiers provide additional replay value by changing weapons, enemies and other mission conditions. The game is also available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. By combining the complete original campaign with a new story arc, expanded combat options and cross-platform multiplayer, Halo: Campaign Evolved offers both returning players and newcomers a modern way to experience the beginning of Master Chief’s journey.

A New Hell Opens in Edo: Nioh 3’s First DLC Arrives This August
A New Hell Opens in Edo: Nioh 3’s First DLC Arrives This August
Team NINJA and KOEI TECMO have announced Hell Rising, the first major downloadable expansion for Nioh 3. The DLC will launch on August 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam. Hell Rising transports players to Edo in 1651 during the Keian era. Following the death of the future shogun Takechiyo, the castle town has fallen into chaos. Players will join the one-eyed swordsman Yagyu Jubei and the Spanish envoy Rodrigo while investigating new mysteries connected to the powerful Spirit Stones. The expansion introduces a new open-field region transformed into a hellish wasteland by the Crucible. Yokai, human rebels and alchemists from foreign lands now occupy the devastated area, creating new encounters and threats throughout the map. A major gameplay addition is the hoko and shield weapon combination, which can be used with both Samurai and Ninja Styles. Players can combine the defensive strength of the shield with short-spear attacks or throw the shield toward enemies for more tactical combat options. Hell Rising also introduces the Hundred Demon Realms Picture Scroll equipment category. These rare scrolls are obtained from enemies, but players must first complete an automatically generated battle before equipping them. Replaying these challenges can modify the scroll’s special effects and improve its overall power. Experienced players will gain access to Enlightened One’s Journey, a new extreme difficulty designed for a third playthrough. Certain enemies can receive powerful Curse enhancements, but defeating them may reward players with divine-rarity equipment. New Martial Arts, Ninjutsu abilities, Guardian Spirits, Soul Cores, Grace set bonuses and powerful equipment effects will provide additional ways to customize character builds when Hell Rising launches.
