Saved Before Disaster: The Sims 4 Finally Protects Your Stories

The Sims 4 has received a major free base-game update focused on protecting player progress, improving performance and making long-running save files more reliable across PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox.

The biggest addition is Autosave, which can automatically create save points during important moments. Players can customize when the game saves, including after travelling between lots, after a selected amount of playtime or following major gameplay milestones.

Players who prefer manual control can activate Save Reminders. A notification appears at chosen intervals and encourages the player to save without forcing an automatic save.

Memory Boost is now enabled across all supported platforms. The system improves how The Sims 4 manages memory during gameplay and is designed to reduce lag, shorten loading times, improve responsiveness and lower the risk of memory-related crashes.

The performance improvements may be especially noticeable in large households, heavily decorated properties, Residential Rental lots, older save files and longer gameplay sessions.

The update also introduces eight new Starter Sims and eight free Create-a-Sim accessories inspired by Caribbean, Indigenous, Latin American and South Asian cultures. These Sims can appear when starting a new character or be downloaded through the Maxis Gallery.

A new Music Den Kit adds retro-futuristic furniture, soundproofing panels, wall records and musical instruments for players who want to build a dedicated creative space.

PlayStation users also gain access to Marketplace Quick Buy, while notification controls have been expanded to reduce unwanted festival and meetup alerts.

Several community-reported problems have been addressed, including disappearing roof sections, crashes connected to Sim cache data and stability issues affecting saves containing multiple Residential Rentals.

By combining Autosave, customizable reminders and improved memory management, the update delivers some of the most important quality-of-life and stability changes added to The Sims 4 in recent years.
